Residential and Commercial Architecture, Planning & Design

Design Philosophy

CraigMy approach would be to augment, enhance and execute specific client goals, needs and priorities rather than impose my personal design preferences. My design vision would not be any universal preconceived 'style' that would be arbitrarily applied to all projects but rather that each project would be individually customized.

There would be my personal commitment and involvement throughout the design and construction process, with great care, attention, thoughtfulness, perseverance and determination.

My personal preference but not a mandate, would be that the project be energy conscious, use local and regional materials and systems, use recycled, sustainable, green, non-toxic building materials. Consideration would also be given to off-site and prefabrication possibilities to accelerate construction.

The use of on-site energy sources such as solar, wind, geothermal, toward zero net energy or carbon neutral position, should also be considered as it is socially responsible to be a good steward of resources.

Project cost, time, & quality control are very important. My preference but not a mandate, is early contractor selection in an open book, negotiated format so that value engineering exercises for cost control can occur during development of drawings. The drawing and budget production would be simultaneous rather than a linear progression. The client should then benefit from the collective body of knowledge available from the collaboration and teamwork of the entire design and construction team, consultants and contractors.

I would be the leader of that team. Where applicable, the building and planning departments would be invited early and often to participate and contribute in the project development thereby easing future approvals.

My artistic sense is evolving and elevating as my work progresses, an exciting prospect for the future. I look forward to that component making an increasing contribution to the quality of my work. Creativity through architecture gives me a joy and sense of purpose. Adding to the quality of life of others is my destined societal contribution.

Client satisfaction on all levels is of utmost importance. I take this responsibility very seriously and personally but I also seek to make the design and construction process interesting, enjoyable and educational.

He engaged our needs professionally in that our home "lives" precisely the way we described our every day needs to him during the process. Now that we have lived in our home for some 5 years we couldn't be more comfortable with his vision for us.”

"I’ve worked with Craig on a variety of residential and resort projects over the past dozen years. Craig has a wonderful sense of design and style which has been reflected in the success of our many and varied projects. He is extremely practical and able to quickly and creatively find solutions to both design and value engineering challenges. I’ve also appreciated his knowledge of building codes, and his hands on approach to resolving issues with the jurisdiction and the contractor that keep the project on schedule and budget."
